About Columbus Laser & Cataract Center
Robin F. Beran, MD, FACS, ABES, created The Columbus Laser and Cataract Center to provide patients access to today’s most modern refractive surgical techniques, while still maintaining an atmosphere of personal attention. His carefully selected physicians, technicians, nurses, and other staff members are all dedicated to delivering the highest quality specialty care.
With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Beran has performed over 20,000 surgical procedures. He is one of the few surgeons in central Ohio certified by both the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American Board of Eye Surgery (Cataract/Lens Implantation – 1992 with recertification in 1999; Incisional Refractive Surgery – 1995; LASIK – 2000). Dr. Beran is actively involved in continuing education as a national and international speaker, teaching other eye surgeons, and publishing in respected journals and textbooks.
Dr. Beran’s foresight has enabled him to combine the benefits of refractive surgery with modern cataract surgery. The two disciplines can be used together as well as individually to enable patients to reduce their dependency on glasses and contact lenses.
By using a very comprehensive computer program to analyze the outcomes of his previous surgeries, Dr. Beran is continually improving his ability to perform laser vision correction. Essentially, the data analysis of Dr. Beran’s 9,000+ procedures contributes to the outcome of each successive patient by affording him a thorough understanding of the many variables associated with successful refractive surgery.
Dr. Beran is trained to treat myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), presbyopia and mixed astigmatism.

Most insurance plans do not cover the Laser procedure. However, you should definitely contact your insurance company to determine if it is included in your Benefits Plan. Some insurances may provide coverage. If it only pays for part of your laser you are responsible for the remaining balance.
Be sure to check and see if you have VSP (Vision Service Plan), Total Vision Services or ECPA ( Eye Care Plan of America). Though these plans do not pay for procedure, they do have a discounted rate. We are one of only two Laser Centers in Columbus credentialed by VSP.
True Laser Vision Correction Stories
To Dr. Robin Beran & Staff at the Columbus Laser Center,
“I spent a great deal of time considering whether to have the laser or not. As a pathologist my eyes are essential for doing my job. After all of the talking, cruising the Internet, reading and even attending an educational workshop, I decided that I wanted to trust my eyes to someone who has extensive experience with not only the LASIK procedure, but who also has a great deal of experience with other surgical options (e.g. PRK) that are available.”
“This was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. The results have far exceeded my expectiations or hopes! Dr. Beran and staff demonstrated that it is possible to perform laser correction in a professional, caring, and friendly environment. Every aspect of the process demonstrates their commitment to achieving the best possible results. I am very appreciative of each and every one of them for the time and effort given to the care of my eyes.”
“I recommend Dr. Beran and all of the staff at the Columbus Laser Center to anyone who is considering having this done.”
With Warm Regards,
Bill Becker, DO

Dr. Beran and Staff,
“I can’t thank you enough for new “look” on life you’ve given me! It’s been 29 years since I could see without the aid of anything and now everything is so clear and bright. I feel like a 10 year old again. Your entire staff has to be the best collection of warm, wonderful people I’ve ever met. Again, thank you for everything.”
Dear Dr. Beran,
“I just wanted to thank you for my 20/20 vision. I have worn glasses for 32 years and have slowly watched my vision steadily get worse over the passing years. But thanks to you I now have perfect vision. The day after my procedure my optometrist commented that he could not even detect the flaps – if I had not told him that I had the Lasik procedure done he would have never known. This truly is the best return on my money I have ever made. To say thank you is just not enough. It is everything I had hoped for. It has been 2 months and I still get excited when I realize, Wow, I can see!!!”
“I think what impressed me the most is how thorough your staff was in explaining the risks. Most places that I researched did not do that. It’s hard to believe that something so quick and painless could do so much! I have no regrets and I know first hand why your reputation proceeds you. You have such a phenomenal gift in giving people a second chance for perfect vision and I am forever indebted to you.”
Thank you again and again,
“Earlier this year, I had PRK performed on both of my eyes by Dr. Beran! I had been wearing soft contacts for over 20 years. Needless to say, it was marvelous to be able to wake up in the morning and not search for my glasses or rush to put in my contacts. No more ripped lenses or bottles of different sorts of cleaning solutions. The bottom line is my vision is super….no side effects! The whole process was seamless, from my initial appointment, to the scheduled procedure and now my followup appointments. The staff has always been extremely helpful, answering all my questions and inquires about insurance. I would highly recommend Dr. Beran and his staff.”
